Hi,
Later in the year we will take delivery of our 2018 LTZ. Rightly or wrongly, my biggest concern was the apparent number of reported DEF issues affecting the LML.
I can't say I have seen much or anything relating to DEF issues afflicting the L5P and while it's a bit late to be asking the question now, do you guys think the problems have been largely resolved or it's just too early to tell?
Thanks in advance.

Several of us were having reoccurring CEL issues that the dealers thought was DEF related. There was some pain as dealers tried to throw parts at it. GM released a software update back in October or November I believe, and that took care of those of us on the forum experiencing the issue. I personally haven't heard of any other DEF related issues. I have an 18 with 13k miles so far.

The recall date was Nov 1.
Any and all earlier updates and bulletins were rolled into that one as well.

'Largely resolved' seems like a good description.

I spent 8 months with recurring Cel
P20ee issues while GM threw parts at it and then decided it was my fault for not using GM DeF... days after finally resolving that with the computer update another Cel referencing the DeF injector popped up and it was replaced.
NO further problems and I have almost 19k miles. I think as long as these trucks use DeF there will be the potential for problems.
Other than that truck is awesome. Tows great.

Thanks
Somewhat comforting that a number of people have looked at the thread and only one confirmed DEF issue. At least not plague proportions.

I've replaced 2 DEF reservoirs on 2 different trucks, neither had reoccurring issues.

My 2018 had an issue not related with anything other that a factory employee screw up. It has 15000 miles now and running perfect. My 2011 LML was a different story. I really think GM has learned a lot in the past 6-7 years. Buy with confidence.

There is reportedly 5 sensors on the exhaust. The last one #5 was improperly connected and not giving temperature readings. It took a GM tech to find it and plug it in correctly. Simple fix that took 39 days to find. I do not know how many of those days they actually looked.

I feel your pain.... took 8 months, dozens of trips to different dealers and enduring "It's your fault" before a computer update was finally brought out.
That is unacceptable in today's world.

Had one code and I was low on DEF and letting it count down a little, (lazyness). I cleared the code put 2.5 gallons in and it hasn't come back. At next service which is soon I will have that November update put into the truck. Never did have any other problems though at 13K miles.

Although there are clearly not many problems with the system at this point, as an option, hopefully someone eventually works out a permanent "fix".

Hi There.
Found this thread after, yet, another sensor issue. We have a 2013 3500 Chevy Silverado, and a 2017 3500 Chevy Silverado... The 2013 has been great, just regular maintenance and we put about 30,000/40,000 miles a year on our trucks. The 2017, however, has had 4 sensor issues in the last year. (First issue started at 7,000 miles, I think.) Chevy replaced the DEF Sensor and we are still having issues with it. From my personal experience, sometimes you get lucky and get a vehicle that is reliable as they come, others need constant attention. It's making me second guess if we should buy a 3rd Chevy 3500 Diesel, or if we need to look elsewhere. Anyone else having issues with their 2017 Chevy Diesels?

I do not see on here as many issues as in years past. That said I went through a 8 month ordeal starting at 225 miles with my 2017. The dreaded p20ee. But since then the truck has been great. The emission systems on these trucks are very complex so problems are always a possibility. GM needs to do a better job at the dealer level.

This is my forth diesel duramax, 2002-2008-2017-2018.

2002- Silverado 2500 injectors sets X 4

2008-2500 Silverado always regenning 200 or less miles cost a lot to regen couple gallons of fuel plus the regen muffler kept plugging up.

2017 3500 Silverado Didn’t care for how big it was, traded it in 3 months later with on 1700 Miles on it. Yea I know I’m nuts but have to live with the wife.

2018 2500 GMC Sierra so far love it
