I just bought a 2015 LML. How should it compare pulling to my 2003 LB7 with 125 HP. tune, Air Dog lift pump, exhaust and custom triple disc converter? I know it isn't as peppy, but haven't got the goose neck ball installed yet. Just curious before I sell the lb7.

I have a mildly modded '02.
exhaust, intake and edge with a tow tune.
Also, the utility body with tools in it leaves me at about 8K lbs with an empty bed. I find that my '02 is more stable than my '11 being that she is heavier.
I also find that my low end throttle response is better on the upgraded '02 than the stock '11. The pull similarly at higher RPMs but it is coming out of the hole where you notice the difference on the modded '02.
The electronics that are integrated into the '11 are sweet to tow with!
Integrated brake controller, exhaust brake and transmission downshifts are awesome in the '11. The tranny and exhaust brake work together well and are much more intuitive than in the '02. Taking your foot off the go pedal and slowing down for a light (without hitting the brake) and the '11 will downshift on it's own to slow you down without hitting the brake. I find that my '02 will downshift, but not till you are on the brakes.
As soon as the '11 is out of warranty, I am planning on similar minor mods to increase low end turbo spool.
I plan on keeping both trucks and, based on weather conditions and which equipment is on each truck, have alternated towing each day a couple of times which made comparisons a bunch easier.
Congrats on the new truck!!!

LML will be better. The frame and suspension upgrades make a HUGE difference plus, the LML is about 100rwhp stronger than a stock lb7 so power wise they are almost equal. But the LML has the lb7 by leaps and bounds in every other category...

I drive an 02 with a air dog raptor lift pump, cold air intake, free flowing exhaust and a ppe hot +2 et set on level 8 all the time. My work truck is a 2015 3500 ccsb. There is no power problem with the 15, it runs, I like the creature comforts, the exhaust brake and the smooth shifting tranny. It is easy to turn off the traction control also. My 02 is heavier, so comparing apples to apples is tough, but the 15 isn't lacking in anything and if the funds were available, I would probably have one in my garage. That being said, my 02 has 231k and runs great, so hopefully it continues for another couple hundred k without grenading.

torque management makes the newer truck feel 'slow' unloaded.

I think it would be a night and day difference. LML chassis, brakes, and integration? If I had the money, I'd also have a 2015. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't get rid of the LB7, but it probably would no longer be the primary tow vehicle.

for $62k+ I'd hope the newer truck was better. My friends new truck is really nice,I can't wait for him to trade up,,I might just have to get it.

I would definitely say that the '11 is better than the '02 as an overall truck.
Is it worth 62K+? Well, to me, no. That's why I bought a used '11 for 39K.
I also use it as a primarily work truck. It is not a toy and does not haul the family that often (1 day a week at most).
You also have to remember that it is all the bells and whistles that cost. The '11 has a bunch more stuff integrated into it (like I said before) to make towing with/working it easier. Those things are SWEET.
The original start of this post was asking how a stock new truck would tow vs. a mildly modded '02. I still say that the low end pull of the mildly modded '02 that I have is better than the same RPM range on the '11. Just means that once I am out of warranty, she will be similarly modded and I can have the best of both worlds.

So far I'm not real impressed with my 2015. I hooked to my 40' Pace enclosed trailer with racecar and golf cart this morning. pulled it about 80 miles and the new truck (2015) would barely maintain 70 mph. My foot was about 1/4" off the floor. This is in central Alabama headed south. Very small hills. I put it in manual mode and dropped it to 5th. gear and made a little difference, not much.
Truthfully I'm disappointed in it. My 2003 can drag the same load with all the crap to go racing up any hill on the interstate at 75 with ease. I actually have to be careful when it starts to lug and I give it some throttle not to over accelerate by the time I'm at the top of the hill.

When I take the new truck in for it's first oil change I'm going to ask them if they can check to see if it is making full power. If it is then EFI live will be ordered immediately.

How do the new transmissions hold up to added power when towing?

I've put over 300,000 miles on the 03 and it still has bigger balls than the 2015...
Maybe I just didn't realize how much of a difference the mods made on my 03.

It's just that your used to much more torque than a stock truck can produce. I had the same problem, I tuned mine and now it's an animal. The trans is good for 500rwhp but if you go over 900 tq it's over with. I can push thru my converter at will, I have already set up a preliminary date with Evan to build mine...

I'm almost ashamed to say this, but here goes. THE WEATHER TECH FLOOR MATS KEEP THE PEDAL FROM GOING ALL THE WAY DOWN!!!!!:hehe::hehe: I removed the floor mat and it will atleast down shift under a load now. The last 1/8" of pedal is critical to making this truck down shift properly. I noticed this because If I downshifted manually and kept the RPM up higher it pulled better. Still not my 2003, but better...
