when I pull out from a stop sign and smash it I get what sounds like something metal ticking against something. I tried to repeat at like 45-50 and smash it and does not do it. only from a stop or 20 and below. I got home and parked and reved the engine and did not get it then either.

Three things come to mind.
1) U joint
2) Drive shaft rub
3) Fan Rub
possible cause of rub (inter) motor/trans mount

thanks. I will check them out

I had this problem a couple months ago. Replaced the ujoints and its gone. Don't ask me how they make this noise lol.

thanks. like I said its only at WOT just normal driving around I don't here it.

Where I'd start

Turbo heat shield
Leaking bellows in up pipes
Exhaust manifold leak
Injector (run fuel treatment and see if it goes away)

I was thinking maybe injector too. I haven't ran any additive for a while, I just put some in the last tank.

I second the u-joints. Mine did that and it was a u-joint. The rollers were wore out and when you torqued it hard the surfaces ground together making a ticking/clicking noise.

I haven't done nothing yet and now I am getting like a mouse squeak noise so I guess I better do something before it lets me sit. would I just replace the driveshaft ones? does the short front shaft turn all the time or just in 4x4?

Yup, take a look at your U-joints. The front driveshafts I belive turn very slowly when you are in 2wd, just simply from teh fluid in the transfer case moving around. I bet a U-joint has gone bad, check the rear most U-joint (one that goes on your pinion yoke) they seem to be the first ones to go.

Mine never got the point of squealing, but my rear ujoint on main driveshaft was probably not far from it. I got AC delcos for like 16 bucks a piece on rock auto and took 20mins to put in. No more ticking...

Just so you know, exhaust leaks squeal like a bad bearing on these trucks due to the metal gaskets used in the exhaust tract. If it was a bearing or u joint It woud be consistent at almost all speeds, not just when pushing it...

That is true, the squeal could be from an exhaust leak somewhere. The ticking noise went away on mine when I replaced the ujoints. It would only tick when you mashed the skinny pedal a little bit more than normal. I thought it would be consistent at all speeds as well, guess I was wrong. Only thing I can figure is that it was getting in a bind somehow.

To the op, I would replace the ujoints to fix the ticking. That may or may not be the source of the squeal. If she still squeals, then I would look into an exhaust leak as stated above.

Exhaust leaks generally will tick before they squeal. Just an FYI...

now its starting to squeal alittle more like coming to a stop sign and for some odd reason when I make a left turn in a road. I think I am going to get u-joints toady and replace that first. how much fluid will come out of the front diveshaft end when I pull it off?

like wjonesgt said it only ticks when I push it alittle harder than normal.

Post turbo exhaust leaks will not tick. One way to confirm or rule out an exhaust leak is if the tick is rpm related or speed related. if it comes back at the same rpm it could be exhaust manifold or something pre-turbo. If it ticks faster when the truck is moving faster, and is unaffected by rpm, it's not exhaust at all.

Interesting. Making a noise when slowing down or turning is strange. Does it only squeal when you give it some fuel or just pulling out normal?

Ive had my main driveshaft off a few times and the truck was level. I didnt have any fluid come out. I probably wouldn't park the front end up hill.

I'm not sure, but when I took mine off I just put the back tires up in ramps so nothing could come out :)

if the u-joints are bad or going bad shouldn't there be play if I try to turn them back and fourth? everytime I check them they are tight. I thought maybe a front wheel bearing but I checked that a couple weeks ago and have no play in them either.
