Truck died..."Battery not charging"

I know there have been a few discussions on this, and I did search for them, but didn't have much luck, so here goes. I was driving about 40mph yesterday and the engine died, door locks activated(don't know which way), and message on DIC said "Battery not charging". I put it in neutral and it fired right up, except when I pushed the throttle is kind of sputtered as it accelerated for about 3 or 4 seconds then ran fine since. Also I have noticed my driver 1 settings like the A/C and DIC readings do not hold every time and seem to change after I kill the engine and then restart later. I plan to scan for codes, but anyone else experience this stuff? Anything else I should try? Could it be a battery cable problem?

One of our work trucks (2002 6.0 Chevy) was acting up one day. I went to take the cables off and the positive side of the battery and the plastic part of the battery was snapped off right around where the cable screws in. I don't know how it made it home. It was acting goofy the whole way home... (interior lights going on and off). Check your cables and where they screw into the battery.

Battery's, battery cables. Also look for the ground connectors that screw/bolt to the frame/engine; make sure they are clean and tight.

This sounds like the same type of Edge failure experienced by several other people here. Try pulling your chip next time and see if the problem goes away. I believe V1.0 was having heat soak problems.

I thought about the edge problems I have read about, but mine is v1.3 and I haven't seen any reports of heat problems with it, but I guess it is possible. I am going to scan for codes and check the batteries and cables when I get home today. Thanks for the advice....:D

Bet you one dollar, it's a ground problem.

They're easy, and they are tough.

There are Seventy Eleven, ground points, on your truck. :exactly:

Good Luck.

I have now checked for codes----none reported.

I checked battery connections and grounds---tight and clean.

It was time for a new fuel filter, so I put a new one on an noticed what looked like somewhat large pieces of rust stuck in the top holes and in the bottom plastic piece of the filter. Dare I say...OH S***!! I don't know if this caused the engine to die or not, but I sure hope the filter caught all of that crap. Time will tell..........

About once every year my battery trouble light goes on, WHY????
I go to the alternator quick connect plug push it (doesnt move) and every thing works for another year, WHY????
I have taken every thing appart cleaned all the contact surfaces and put on non conductive grease, and it still acts up, dealer has had a look, same results.
I suspect the field wiring circuit is intermittant and the BCM is screwing around somehow.

thats my problem, but just a thought.

good luck , drive safe
