I hadn't seen this thread until after both of those things so fuel mileage wasn't the most important thought on my mind.
Also, I've only got about 6,500km on the ODO currently... wanted to get some decent mileage on the truck before I really started using it. I can definitely give towing mileage feedback in the near future.
You don't need to worry about getting mileage on the truck before you start using it. They're designed to be used for towing pretty much immediately. The biggest concern is wearing in the ring and pinion which already happened thousands of miles ago on your truck.
