Anyone from France?

There is someone from France posted in the 'other GM section' with a 5.7 diesel and is having injection pump issues and is having trouble finding parts or someone that can service em. Since us older truck people don't tend to venture out of our usual sections thought it may be worth asking here since the 6.2 and 5.7 were not much different. I'm sure he would appreciate any leads anyone can give him. He said he has had the car for 28 years and hates to get rid if it because a IP issue.

I'm sure Bosch dominates Europe but seems like some Stanadyne stuff had to make it over there.

I am guilty of this, 99% of lurking and posts is in the 6.2 section, nut I have been checking the build and performance section, I try to stay anyway from performance section, I see the posts there and the wheels in my brain get spinning, saying that's cool I want to do that... maybe someday..

Not to be argumentative, but I could add several things to your list. So as not to wear out my single typing finger, early-on failure of heads, head gaskets, pistons, cranks, rods. The red engine sounds very similar to the early 5.7`s.

My very first 5.7 was a 78 c10, new. Several since. Had a few 6.2`s early build, bought several early builds at auction for resale.

As for the injection pumps, a re-builder would look at them as more alike as far as design and function. ANY rebuilder that can handle a DB can do a 5.7 pump

I know the 6.2 and 5.7 pumps are different but thought maybe someone from France may have some leads where he could look for someone to rebuild his pump. Did John Deere make it over there? What did Ford use there?

Deere MADE it to the UK in the early 60`s
there`s several hundred deere dealers in France alone. My guess, there`s several independent re-builders as well. It might take some personnel effort to locate them

The pump with a 6 month warranty, also has an unspecified core charge (charge card must be on file) ???????????????????
I`ve sold cores to diesel specialists @ 150.00, so that 260.00 "rebuild"? (or re-sealed) could go to over 400.00

Yes, there is no simple answer cause it maybe a reseal and be Ok or it might not... how bad do you want to keep driving a 5.7 in France....?

Yes, most any IP shop worth their license should be able to rebuild the IP but it depends on what happened to it. Broken input shaft is a time to get a good core and build that.

A couple oddities here. First, NEW discussions in the 5.7 forum !! Second, 2 Cadillac`s, a 79. and a 80, both with fuel distribution problems, both from the UK
Now, I "THINK" The one being discussed here is the one that sat for a few months and now won`t start. No real reason to think it`s the pump quite yet. Hard to get information from these guys, let alone any pictures

Ya, air in the fuel system....

I agree, or 100 other things to consider BEFORE kicking the pump (IP) to the curb.

But again, no mention by the OP over at the 5.7 forum of how he narrowed it down to the IP. It would be nice to help him out, but info is needed

I know that is a lot of 5.7 activity. I saw the first one slightly late then checking to see if he had replied and kinda saw the second one but it didn't register in my brain that it was a different thread so I almost missed it.

I almost didn't pull my 5.7 out of storage for this winter. I got it home then it sat for a couple weeks with a few issues like needing to be demoused, leaking air shocks that cause a odd rear bump steer, and the rear bumper barely attached due to rust. Got that stuff patched up last weekend and drove it maybe 300 miles last week. Its a rusty rattly mess but I still like to drive it.

I like the rusty crusty ones, they seem to run better.
This is my truck and car, 76 c20 camper special, was 454 4 speed, now a 5.7 auto. 81 Delta original 87.000 miles
