Removing tailgate cap

On a 2012 Is it just on with tape? I can find Plenty of videos on how to remove the 1500 cap but none on the HD trucks. Mines getting pretty beat up and looking to replace

Yup, double sided tape. You can put the 1/2 ton cap on there, but you'll need to put in the riv-nut inserts.

I usually coax the inner tape first, sometimes with putty knife and small hammer. Then, roll the protector outward, and start at thends and work inward. Follow up with an eraser wheel.
Warming it may make it easier.

3M adhesive remover and a plastic putty Knife

both available at BIG Box Parts store

I got my replacement from Amazon very cheap and free shipping

put tailgate down and start from inside edge across gate and then over the top of gate (don't go crazy and force it let the adhesive remover do the work

me and my daughter did entire project in 45 minutes
