fuel filter

I only took a quick look the other day and was wondering if there is an easy or correct way to change the fuel filter?
From the top it looks like accessing it from the bottom would work better but that seems like a lot of removing of parts to do so.
I was told by the dealership where I bought the truck that "be carefull around the fitting on the housing because they aren't metal and crack ".That's about all I know as far as changing the filter.
I always prime any filters I install but I'm unsure how to get the old one out and the new one in.
Thanks for any help or advise!

Remove the wheel well liner. Easy as pie that way.

I tried changing it from the top, and it was too hard. Drop the liner, and changed it out in less than 15 minutes.

Changed the fuel filter first time tonight at 15K miles and 35% life remaining - took longer to get the fender liner out and in than the filter - easy cheesy. I even like the smell of diesel fuel.....
