Cant thank you guys enough for trying to help.

Dammit - wish I'd seen The Bac's illustration - that's clearly the answer. The way I did it ( again, following what I THOUGHT was what the instruction had in mind ) no way would ANY of the filters ( by any number of different manufacturers whose parts no's complied..).….would fit. Too thick to slide into the slot I cut.

Dammit - I actually did have the correct filters - but returned them when I couldn't stuff em in there.

Instead, I bought a WIX24400 - a much larger surface-area filter that is thin enough to fit the hole I DID cut....of course I had to cut it down to size in terms of filter area.

So now I do have a cabin air filter - when I have time, I will track down the correct filter per the parts numbers you guys have provided, get out my cutting tools, and cut more of the plastic housing out to comply with The Bac's outstanding drawing/photo !

I remain astonished that GM went to the trouble of designing an air system that clearly was made for cabin air filters - then at some point in time made the decision not to cut out the section they obviously intended a filter should go.

Thanks again, guys !

SIDE NOTE - Can someone tell me how to change the bottom description - we sold the 2005 - what I was discussing is our "new" 2013. ( has 80,000 miles - the 2005 had only 59,400 - someone is going to love it) The "new" one is also a Silverado 'long bed" 3500 Duramax-Allison. The 2005 was an outsanding vehicle - served as well for the five years we had it . As satisfied I was with it in every respect, have to admit the 2013 is superior in so many ways. Love the additional power, and what appears to be a "jake-brake" ! And of course that additional "over-drive" gets us both better fuel mileage and a higher cruising speed!

Bone-stock except for air shocks in rear (to compensate for removing one rear spring from the spring-pack to give a decent ride on those occasions when not towing heavy loads ! ). Added small winch in pick-up bed to help load our jet ski up its ramp. Normal use is towing approx. 11,000 lb. trailers ( our Bayliner on its 3 axle, or my '38 Packard V-12 in its "box" trailer. Air box modified to accept a cabin air filter the system was obviously originally designed for!

Look up in the right upper corner of the forum page by your username. See "UserCP" with the little arrow? Click that. Then select "Edit Signature". It'll take you to the edit screen where you can repair it. Do your editing, then click "Save signature" and you're done.

You should still be able to trim the housing to get the 4805s to fit.

Yes - will do that - going into town to re-order the correct filter ( I like the idea of the two-piece arrangement given the miserable access ! ).

And also thanks for explaining how to up-date my "signature". !

I'm going to add a cabin air filter to my 2012. I have 126,000 miles on it. I can imagine the crap that is in there..Why would GM installed them then delete them for a few model years then reinstalled them??

Because some/many people don't know they are there and need to be changed periodically.
