C.A.R.B. Rules

How many medium duty owners in CA are getting hit by the new rules in 2020?
I hope I can find a way around them because I can't afford a new truck or a repower!

All med duty older than 2010 under 14000 i believe.

A. Register in AZ
B. Register yourself as a native american?

C. Even a repower would be carb questions unless it were MD 2010 engine or newer with computer and accompanied smaug.

D. Best answer is the one that solves many: Lets start a convoy headed north to end this... (Blow it in place is always the army's first answer, we just dont always say it first, gets us on lists)

Any diesel truck with a gvwr of 14k or over, mfg'ed before 2011, with the exception of rv's or trucks with pick up beds installed at the time of manufacture. As of 2020, you will not be able to register your truck. The cutoff date is prorated by date of manufacture, my 2006 will expire as of 2021, but in reality, I wont be able to renew in 2020, as it runs over the new year. Just got my letter in the mail this last week, although I have known about it for a couple of years now. I will probably sell it out of state, or set up a LLC in Arizona, where I have a rental property, and have the company own the truck. It will still be illegal to house it here in California though, even if it is registered out of state.

I wish someone would set up a service that buys these old rigs out of state and makes sure they go to good owners that will really take care of the rig....

2010 or newer as i said.

Truck & Bus Rule
Lighter Vehicles GVWR 14,001-26,000 lbs.
• Require a 2010 or newer model year engine
from January 1, 2015 to 2023

• Personal use motor homes or recreational vehicles.

Here is an excerpt from an email I got from CARB a few weeks back when I asked about exemptions.

"Mr. Davis-Minter, thank you for your email regarding California’s Truck and Bus regulation.



The Truck and Bus regulation does have an exemption for pickup trucks, 13CCR2025(c)(12), however it is very specific:

(c) Exemptions

This regulation does not apply to:

… (12) Trucks with a GVWR of 19,500 lbs or less with a pick-up bed used exclusively for personal, non-commercial, or non-governmental use

Since I have a rv hauler bed, I am not exempt.

The regulation actually states:
For older vehicles, CARB says they must be either replaced with a 2011 or newer vehicle or re powered with a 2010 or newer engine. Since Kodiaks stopped being mfg'ed in 2009, this would be a problem. I could buy a model that has a pick up bed. I really like my rv hauler bed, but that is certainly one option I have.

1. Buy a g4500 from 2010 on, do a 'body swap' to include the at least B pillar and windshield area.

2. now go register your *New* Van.

Another dumbass idea from the idiots in California.....Isnt there more to be cleaned up on say streets of San Francisco with tent cities, needles and human waste??? Maybe they will "ALLOW" you to give your truck to one of the addicts looking for free stuff and handouts from the government. I got more to rant about but will stop
