I’ve also torn apart my turbo to start rebuilding it. (I’ve taken quite a few pictures there if anyone wants me to do a write up on that). I had to go buy a parts washer to help with the cleaning too. Plus I got in the head gasket kit and ARP head studs, as well as the injectors and all of the lines and hold downs to go with it all.

Here’s a few before and some in between pictures of the turbo rebuild. Ive also submerged these parts in evaporust just like the metal fuel and coolant lines. These were also submerged for a whole day, then brushed off with an old toothbrush in some hard to reach places and rinsed with water. Next I’ll scuff and then paint the exhaust housing and vane housing with a high temp paint, as well as clean the turbo intake housing (aluminum) and then rebuild.

I’ve been putting in extra hours inside the house here lately so I haven’t been able to accomplish much. So now I’m getting in the routine of coming out in the shop for a couple of hours after everyone goes to sleep. It makes things a little tougher because I can’t (or don’t) use any air.

I’m cleaning off the transmission with a brass wire brush on the end of my electric drill. I’ve also cleaned the vanes and ring with a brass wire wheel as well. Then I’ve soaked and cleaned the intake housing pieces in simple green and water (50/50 mix) and brushed clean. I’ve ordered all the high temp paint and I’ll be working on the engine pretty soon. But there will be a lot more cleanup to come.

Ten Thumbs Up!

I don't remember if I saw it in your many awesome posts, but are you replacing your wiring harness? If so do you know who you are going to buy it from? I have an 04 LLY that won't start. After reading as many posts as I can find it sounds a lot like air getting in the fuel system but could also be an issue with the wiring harness. Mine is looking a little rough for wear so I was thinking about replacing it while I have some of the engine compartment disassembled.

Great job on your rebuild!!! It has been extremely informative for me.

Hey tom2002. Thank you. I have not replaced my wiring harness and hope I don’t have to. I’m tired of spending money. If I do have to get one though, it will most likely be a GM factory harness if they are still available. I work at a GM dealership so MY cost is pretty reasonable. However I haven’t quoted one yet so I don’t have any info for you there. I will ask my parts guy on Monday so I can get back to you.
