2008 C-4500 can’t turn headlights off

LIKe the title says. I cannot turn my headlights off on this thing. I realize that I should be able to do so using the dome override switch but that doesn’t work. Replaced the switch module thinking that was the issue but no change. Can I simply install an inline toggle switch to cut power to the headlight switch, or is there something else I should try? Ive also heard that if I do toggle it, I would need to install a diode? I know nothing about that, so guidance would be appreciated. THAnks!

Are you in Canada?
Is this a Canadian market truck (kph on speedometer)?
Is it just the headlights that stay on, or do all the marker lamps stay on?
Did this just start occurring?
Do they shut off when the parking brake is set?

Oh, and to Dieselplace

It’s American I can turn the marker lights off with the switch but not the headlights. And I never even thought about the parking brake being part of the equation! I’ll check on that when I stop and report back. Thanks for the idea, and for replying. I travel cross country in this thing and I sure would like to be able to kill the headlights at night when I’m sleeping. And I’m pretty sure the other trucks in the parking lots wish I could too, lol.

In Park and with the parking brake set, the headlight should go off. Check the parking brake switch.

The other option, there a fuse on the passenger side behind the dashboard. Remove the plate and I believe its fuse 15, labeled DRL. Pull that and it will turn off your Day Time Running Lights.

THANK YOU THANK YOU YHANK YOU!! The parking brake solved the aggravation. That never even entered my mind, and I’ve always set it during the day and wouldn’t have noticed the headlights goingoff. I thank you. So does everyone else in the truck parking. Now I can park like a normal person instead of pulling in and looking stupid.
