Brake pedal question

I just installed all the necessary components to use the brakes in my 08 Suburban. I connected the 2 wires to the 2 studs on the underhood fuse box, i put the 40amp fuse in and i spliced in the brake controller to my 4 wires in the truck. Everything works EXCEPT the brakes.
When i slide the switch on the controller, the brakes activate on the trailer, but when i press the brake pedal in the truck, nothing happens. I used a multi meter and checked the voltage on the brake (colored) wire under the dash and when i apply the brake, i get nothing,....no voltage.

any thoughts?

thanks much for any help you can offer

Aftermarket controller?

Remember, the aftermarket colors are "unique".

Otherwise, perhaps the chmsl fuse is blown.

Red on controller goes to white on truck
Black goes to red on truck
White goes to black on truck
Blue is, well, blue.

it appears to be wired correctly according to the diagram in the truck but the brakes only activate when i press the slide switch on the brake controller but dont work when i press the brake pedal. Why wouldn't it work when i press the brake pedal but works when i slide the stop

Did you check the chmsl fuse? (Center High Mount Stop Lamp).

Or, easier yet, verify that the 3rd brake lamp is working.

It sounds like you are not getting the signal from the brake switch on the red wire. Verify that the signal is present when stepping on the brake pedal. If you ARE getting the signal to the controller, I'd say the controller was bad. If you are NOT getting a signal, take a closer look at the connection to the brake switch on your brake pedal.

Thoughts:

its one of two things-

1-brake controller is faulty...

had it happen to me brand new unit (made in China) was broken out of the box.. same symptoms as you. Spent several weeks chasing it an hour at a time. My son bet me he could fix it in an hour.

He pulled a working module from his truck and installed it:thumb::thumb:

then it all worked and he never let me forget.

2-wiring issue with truck ..

could be something you created by accident or 10 years of wear and tear did it.

I vote take box back and exchange for a new..new one try that

if that fails then the journey of wires, fuses, connections, and misery must begin:eek::eek::2cents::2cents:
