Temps when towing
 
My 2008 sierra 2500 duramax I have an edge cts2 monitor when I am not towing shows 180-200 ect on average. Towing my 30 foot travel trailer we just got it is showing 213-220 average and if pulling a steep grade got up to 230. I am reading and seeing on some sites this is normal for a duramax but its new to me. I also dont feel like I have heard the fan kick on yet. Just making sure these temps are normal I never reached 3/4 on factory gauge nor had a message on DIC

Anyone? I had the clutch fan changes and coolant flushed and it was even worse on the tow home got up to 233 and i let off because i was scared of overheating? Is this normal? I thought fan kicked on at 228

I would start by cleaning the cooling stack....

That's hotter than I ever saw my LLY. But I had the secondary cooling system from engineer837. May have been that hot before I got that and the ScanGauge. Haven't really run enough miles on the 18 to see, but so far 203 is it. But I have not made the long pull on a hot day yet! Fan on the 05 kicked on high about 213. !0 year old truck probably needs the radiator pulled and cleaned, or even replaced.

That seems normal to me. I just got back from a camping trip up in the mountains, with my 30’ toy hauler last week. I saw 230 on my CTS and the fan was on.

Ok thanks for the replies. I cleaned the cooling stack today ( atleast partially) after we got home from the trip. Also got a nice surprise as when i opened the hood apparently the dealership i had change the clutch fan didnt get the ecm mounted back right on the fan housing and it was hanging down rubbing on my fan belt. Didnt appear it did any damage luckily. I also cleaned out the air filter which a friend suggested. Hopefully this helps but I wont know until we take the TT back out. It pulled it like it wasnt even there without the heat issue I was impressed.

Thinking I might have a deeper issue. Now my truck is only running around 160 ect coming home tonight from work. After doing some research I am thinking my thermostats need replaced. Could this be the cause of my random ect increases also?

Starting to really dislike this truck and think I made a poor decision. Now i have a hood leak coming from the front of truck its either power steering or coolant this thing is a basket case.

Check your transmission cooler lines, they are know to leak at the area it goes from rubber to metal.
As for towing temps, my fan kicks on around 230-235 and you know 100% when it turns on unless your blasting your radio.

Also, when towing hills down shift so your around 2300-2700 rpms.
Don't lug your motor or it gets hot.
