Towing capacity?

G'day from downunder (Australia).

I have a 2012 Duramax 2500 which I have just arranged to have the GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass as we call it down here) increased to be the same as a SRW 3500. This has taken the GVM from 4,536kg (10,000lb) to 5,171kg (11,400lb). That's all very good and I now have a new Compliance Plate to be pop-riveted to the firewall and I need to complete the paperwork at the local DoT (Dept of Transport).

However, I also get a one-off opportunity (when I fill in the forms) to insert a number in the box called "GCM" (Gross Combined Mass). This is the total weight of truck and trailer.....but I have no idea what maximum weight my truck is allowed to tow. I realize there are probably 2 different figures....one for 5th wheeler (or gooseneck) and the other for a "normal" type of camper or trailer being towed on the towbar/hitch.

I don't plan to use the 5th wheel or gooseneck option at this stage, but if anybody can tell me what the 2 figures are I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Bill

It doesn't matter what type of trailer you're towing your GCVWR or gross combined vehicle weight rating will always be the same. For 2012 3500HD single wheel diesel Silverado had a maximum GCVWR of 24,500 pounds.
