New to towing the right way.

So the truck I bought comes with a tekonsha voyager brake controller. the light WILL NOT light up no matter what as of now. I do not have a trailer to hookup. i'm reading (can't remember where) that it should so you are allowed to set the gain. I've already fixed the tow haul light wire break. still it will not turn on. sorry for the stupid question, just new to diesels period and towing the right way.

With the ignition switch off, no trailer hooked up and manually moving the brake bar on the controller my Tekonsa lights up showing ( n.c. ) not connected. The gain can not be adjusted without a connection to the trailer!

Unplug the controller and test for 12v on the black wire. White is ground.

Want to simulate a trailer for controller testing? Connect a car headlamp to the blue and black wires at the trailer plug. If it has the RV (blade style 7 way socket, it'll be the bottom two pins (5&7 O'Clock). The lamp filament imitates the trailer magnets.

There's no screen on this one. just the single light. I believe it has the blade style connector. haven't looked too much into it. I don't have a trailer currently. i'll be looking into that soon though. i'll test for power tonight or tomorrow morning. depends on what time I get out of work.

I have the same controller, it will not light until a trailer is connected. It is pointless to attempt to adjust it without the trailer since it needs to be adjusted for each individual trailer due to differences in the trailers brakes.

x2 what Disneydaddy says. Be sure to adjust it for each trailer you pull.

x3 what Disneydaddy says. You have to set it for each trailer depending on weight and # of axles that have brakes on them. Also trailer empty or loaded.
