So I’m trying to adjust my TPMS down to maybe 55 psi on all four from the 65 and 80 psi and so far I’ve gone to 3 different dealers and none of them will touch it. They had no problems on my last 4 trucks doing it for me for free. Since they won’t do it what scan tool out there do I need to buy to do it myself? Or is it even possible?
I can change them on older gm vehicles with a snapon scanner, but there aren't going to be any 2020 aftermarket scanner software releases for probably another 12-18 months for 2020s. Its getting to be were there is so much liability associated with this stuff anymore that its going to get harder and harder to find places to do it I bet.
If it was me, I'd just run with the tpms sensor light on, or learn to live with the 65/75 psi settings or whatever it is on it.
Why would you set your tires to such a low pressure? If you look at an inflation table, at 55 psi your front tires are barely, if even, rated for the weight that’s on that front axle, which is likely why the dealers won’t do it. You bought a 3500 for towing I would assume, why make it handle like a boat and give it the payload of a Colorado?
Most people that tow know all about air pressure.
I run my tires 55psi front and 55psi rear unloaded. The rear is actually lighter than the front plus doing this I get better tire wear on the rear tires and better ride. And of course towing it’s back to 55/80
Don’t know what the TPMS low limit is set in front, I suspect it’s 45psi and it would be nice to have the rear the same.
Living in MI. My rear tires are air down for 6 months. No need for 80psi driving around in snow.
If I’m not towing anything I’d rather have a better ride quality and not wear out the center of the tread from over inflation. Been doing that on my last 4 trucks and it rode much better and even tire wear.
I just can’t imagine wasting that much time airing up and airing down 3 to 5 times a week to have a better ride. Regardless if it rides better, the tires aren’t rated for the weight they are carrying at that inflation. Whether you’ve done it on 4 trucks prior or 400, it doesn’t make it any more safe.
(2020 2500) I just dropped my front and rears to 56 today - same reason - ride quality when not loaded. Wife complains to much when we are driving together and not towing anything. Oddly enough - did not yet set off any TPMS alarms - drove about 80 miles after adjusting.
