Restore my 05, or upgrade to a 2017 L5p

Hey ladies and gents. Been years since I posted on this forum. Feel very out of the game. Life happens ya know. Any who..... I have a 05 same truck thats in my profile pic. She is a great truck and I love her. Lol. Having said that Ohio winters have kicked her ***. She is getting rusty. Frame and stuff is all actually OK. I mean its solid. But the rockers and cab corners are gone, and she just doesn't like cold weather anymore. So I been debating on letting her go. But trucks are so crazy expensive anymore. I am thinking about just putting 15-20 grand into my truck and keep it Alas, with some major upgrades. Just am looking for a couple opinions. Should i restore a LLY or venture into dpf and def fluid land. Lol. The l5p just has my ears perked with its power capailities. And it sounds like its a beast of a truck as well. Any suggestions guys?? Or words of advice. Thanks in advance.

I went the fix up an old truck route vice getting a new one. In the end the money saved compared to a new truck is significant.

my recommendation is take a piece of paper and write down the figures and see the difference.

restore the 05, less emission b.s.
build/buy winter beater truck w/ leftovers

plenty of no rust truck cabs, beds and doors here in dallas texas.

all the 1500/2500 gassers for that generation silverado that have hit the 200k mark are getting parted out for the ls conversions.

Good luck with decision but if you can do some work yourself and are patient you can build an emissions free power house for way less money
