OEM Fifth Wheel Prep Package Production Constrained?

He Fellas. Long time lurker, first time poster. I appreciate all the great info you guys provide for folks like me.

I put in an order for a truck last week. I wanted the fifth wheel prep package, but the dealer is telling me GM wonít pick-up the order because the Fifth Wheel Prep package is material constrained?

I checked the Donlen website and their latest update (8/24) didnít list it as a constraint.

I would appreciate any help, or insight you could provide. Specifically, is this a long-term issue or a short hiccup in the supply chain?

Thanks,
Ned

Which model are you ordering? I have not heard of any restrictions other than you can't get a double cab right now.

I ordered a crew cab. Likely they have a disruption due to the hurricane, but I can’t get any confirmation on if the restriction will be lifted or when that might happen.

Thanks for the reply

I have the factory gooseneck hitch. I do not know what the 5th wheel hitch is like. In my opinion the gooseneck hitch is junk. The safety chain "brackets" are huge (don't drop down into the bed like B&W, need to be removed). The ball is suppose to be removed by flipping the lever, mine is stuck. Need to have someone lift up while I crawl underneath it. The 4 plastic pucks for where the chains go are cheap. If I had to do it all over again, I would forgo the factory hitch and get B&W.

Rusty Scupper- thanks for the insight. I ended up ordering the truck without the factory prep package. My plan is to put in a Reese elite under bed hitch and then have line x installed. Should get me the same effect, although a bit more expensive.

Nedley192 - I think you will be happier in the end. As long as the installer is competent and doesn't use the wrong size hole saw (don't ask). Good luck with the new truck.
