Driver Alert Package

I want to get this Driver Alert Package option on my truck. Many of the trucks I have looked at do not have this option, but have most everything else I want. Can this be added easily? It looks like it involves outside sensors, software, mirror lights, and seat vibrations. I am wondering if this is just a software change with the equipment already available or not. It's only a $400+ option, so it would seem not to be a bid deal to have it installed.

Anyone know how this works?

Thanks.

I'd be surprised if it was just a software update..

The system also includes something to vibrate the driver's seat. From what I was told, it activates when you change lanes w/o using your turn signal. I use my signals religiously, but when there isn't another vehicle within sight, I sometimes don't, and I thought this would end being an annoyance.

You nailed itI have it turned off as it was constantly vibrating the seat and did become an annoyance.. I can see it being a nice feature for a long trip to keep you alert, probably more of what it was designed for.

It is a nice option, and nice to be able to turn it on only when you want it.

Not easily replaced. These systems have a camera located in the housing that connects the rear view mirror to windshield. Different harness, add camera, and software updates to all the modules that the module communicates with.

I was under the illusion that this package includes the blind spot indicator in the mirror too. It does not, so I am less concerned about it now. It looks like the two vehicles that I am looking at now both have it, so I guess it won't matter.

Should get an insurance discount because of the option though, right?

Discounts would be nice. Surprisingly, when I bought our new Tahoe my insurance hardly went up at all.
