They are geared the same. Tires are different allowing more payload capacity. Rear springs are also heavier. GVW of a 3500 single wheel is 11,600 and the 2500 is 9900

2500 have more options to choose from. Hell GM builds 3 different 3500 trucks. SRW, DRW, Cab & Chassis.
