Step bars on 2011

Greetings all,

I've been talking to a salesman about an '11. In the discussion he mentioned that due to the location of the urea tank, there is currently not any step bars that will work on these trucks.

Does anyone have any further information about this? I have the GM 6" oval bars on my current truck and can't imagine not having any on a new truck.

I don't think that is correct. I ordered the step bars on mine. Ship date was yesterday, assume that I will see it within 2 weeks.

The urea fill location is under the hood(pretty sure), so that doesn't sound right. I did see them in the 2011 2500 HD brochure in the accessory section.

There are pictures on Left Lane News of a truck with them on.

It is true that the urea fill location is under the hood, but the tank itself is underneath the truck.

Followup

I talked with the salesman again yesterday and mentioned this; again was told the current GM design will not fit - their techs have tried it on one of the new LML's they have on the lot. He also told me they have had reps from Luverne visit their dealership to have a first hand look to try to figure out a work around to make their version fit. Just trying to get to the bottom of this: don't know that I trust pics unless it clearly shows the tank and bar on the pass. side. I do not see it in the pic found on left lane news nor can I find any pics on Chevy's web site.

I just left the dealer and the truck I looked at the urea tank is on the passenger side just under the front door. So I think you are right, it does not look like steps will fit on the passenger side(stupid location), the salesman could not say either way. He started it up and it was way quiet and the dic showed 9.8 mpg, I'm sure everyone has been racing it around town all day.

Just for an update, the service department told me the 6" oval steps will fit. The steps have a special bracket for the 2011 and the part number he gave me is 20982354.

Thanks Ringneks and Floriduramax1

Thanks guys, you have put my mind at ease.

Kudos to whoever actually owns this site as it is a wealth of info. Rarely make posts myself but avid reader.

Will have to forward this to the dealer I am working with... I'm thinking they were probably trying to fit some pre-2011 6" GM bars hence the problem. I would have thought they would have worked this out at the factory but you never know. At least the pass. side bar will help obscure the ur(ine)ea tank from view.

Floriduramax1: So what is the finish on those black bars in your pics? Black powdercoat from factory or did you have them Line-Xed?

I think I like it. Not so much a chrome guy myself, chrome being the be-atch that it is to keep it looking nice and with the full chrome bumper and all, I think I like the look of the all black step bars.

Now that my mind has been put to rest on this topic, going to order a Taupe Grey LTZ CC 3500 SRW next week.
