Hey fellas here is the perfect GM 4500 pick-up
1. GM body style
2. A 6.6 Dmax but a 7.4 CAT motor (optional)
3. 6 speed manual tranny
4. NP205 manual shift GEAR DRIVE transfer case
5. DANA 70 F/R axles with a 4.10 gear hung with LEAF SPRINGS

This 4500 pick-up will out sell FERD & DODGE all day long GM could not keep this in stock

Hey GM i know you are monitoring this sit so tell your engineers too build this 4500 and just maybe you can out sell FERD's F-450

The Dana 70 would be a terrible idea for the rear axle of a 1.5 ton pickup truck. It is rated to only 7500lbs, even the 70HD is rated to only 10k. It's fine for the front but clearly the Dana S110 like on the F450 makes the best sense for the rear axle as Dana rates it to 14,500lbs.

4.30 gears would also be far more appropriate while the choice between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed Allison would ensure the best sales and bearable economy. Transfer case would be best as a switchable auto with manual override.

For the record, the 2010 F450 retains all the good parts, it's for MY11 coming next spring that it sheds 600lbs and becomes nothing more than a glorified F350. Curious decision.

Just re-read this. I don't know of a CAT 7.4 but that may be just me. Do you mean the 7.2? In 300/860 form I agree it would be a great option for those planning to use the truck close to GCWR on a daily basis.

I think it would nice if gm had something like the 450 to compete with Ford.

They don't need to, Ford is moving the F450 down class so it's going to be no more capable than the Cummins and Duramax 3500DRWs. Completely sucks. I was looking forward to letting the new 6.7 prove itself (as the TQ delivery on the 6.4 is my ONLY complaint on this amazing rig) and then invest in one of these new ones as a 2012.

That's not going to happen now. Only option is an F550 C/C with PU conversion but that's going to get expensive and I won't have the choices I had for my F450. Looks like I'll be keeping this thing for 300k, hope it holds together...

-owned Ford 6.0, Chevy 6.6 and Dodge 5.9 one tons in the past...all great trucks
and some big ugly site rigs too but then you'll know I'm getting old
*won't have to tow the backhoe much longer so I'll be back in a 1-ton SRW

Well one guy that I talked to said that it might be possible to 'special order' an F450 as they are in current form now in 2011 and beyond with 19.5" wheels, etc.

But I also considered getting a 450 now, well early next year before they are all gone and then picking a new 2011 F250 when they hit the market as well as I am already on the list for that one.

They will still have a 33,000 GCVW which is way higher then Dodge or GM offer. Even a Dodge 4500 or 5500 does not offer as good of towing numbers and GM is way off those numbers. The F-450 can tow as much as a GM 3500 can max out on their small GCVW numbers.

See that's what I'm looking for. I feel overloaded with my current 03 3500. Needs bigger brakes and a bigger rear end.
