Mishimoto's 2001-2010 Duramax Trans Cooler R&D Thread

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to let you know that we've been working on a transmission cooler for the 2001-2010 Duramax Diesels. As always the full write ups can be followed along on our Engineering Blog

I don't have to tell you guys why keeping your transmission cool, especially while towing in high ambient temperatures, is important. Getting stuck in "Limp-Mode" is no fun and trashing your transmission is even less fun. One of the best ways to keep your transmission cool, other than figuring out how to control the weather, is by way of a transmission cooler. The engineers were kind enough to include a cooler on your LMM, but unfortunately, it's a bit small. Now, they did make it slightly larger from previous years, but moved it to mount behind the bumper, restricting the airflow. Now we know that it can be flipped, or the bumper/shrouding can be modified to increase the airflow, but we have a better idea on mounting.

When it comes to heat exchangers, bigger is better, which is exactly what we intend to do with our new design. Also as mentioned, we are looking to move the mounting location, specifically back to where it was on the earlier models. On top of that, we've also figured out how to make it fit with all of the 6.6L's from 2001-2010!

We're getting close to having our design ready to be sent off and produced, so I'll keep you updated as we move forward. Untill then, stay tuned!

-Nick
