[Q] Reg Cab 2020 L5P order advice

I am partial to the Reg Cabs so please don't beat me up over it....

I have hit the 6yr mark with my LML with VERY little issues. Replaced the DEF heater under warranty, but thats it. I am really wanting a new 2020 Reg Cab to replace 2014 but need some advice.

I want to upgrade for a couple reasons, mostly because of some of the new features now available to Reg cabs that were not in the past. Power folding mirrors, Premium display, seat heaters, etc. Also, not sure how much longer I will be able to get good $$ for the LML.
I can only find a handfull of Reg cabs on lots in the area and none have the option set I am looking for. My current GMC has a little under 42k miles so I am still looking at a decent trade in I think.

My questions are this:

1. Since its looking like I will need to order this truck and I have never ordered before, what advice can I get on doing this? Are there still incentives to be had when ordering vs off lot purchases?

2. Are the DEF/REGEN issues few and far between now? I was lucky with my 2014 that all Ihave to do was replace the heater.

3. Any other advice?

Thanks,
I

Did you check Laura Gmc in Illinois? They have tons of trucks and I have heard they are fair on trades. I bought outright, ordered,6 weeks later truck came in, flew out Friday morning and was home for lunch on Saturday. They pick you up at airport. 4500 less than any of the 3 local dealers.

I ordered about 30 new vehicles. You will receive what incentives that are offered when delivered/picked up. It’s a crapshoot.
Order shut of date is approaching fast and 2021 orders start in March.
I would find a sales person with experience. 18 something are hard to work with.
Your sale person will find one that has all your requirements or close and you determine if that acceptable. They usually trade one of there vehicles for yours.
I used this option once because they found one 5 states away that was a exact match.
If you order one with in a day you can get your vehicle order number so you can keep tract during the vehicle build process. There are 27 event codes. Mine order # is XMDVV* and just got event code 3300 Order scheduled for production. Week of 2/17/20 ordered it on 10/9/19

Get it configured at a dealer and let them search. That's what they get paid for.

If they don't find what you want order one.

If you're trading, and don't have particular salesman/dealer you want to work with visit a few before making your decision.

Is there a deposit required when you factory order? How much is this generally?

Laura required me to give a 2000.00 deposit on my Denali, because I didn’t want a sunroof. They said if I backed out of the deal they would have a hard time selling it. No problem.

So it depends on the model and options? Not a standard percentage?

I've ordered several GM's and haven't been asked for a deposit.

At the end of the day, it's up to the dealer and likely depends on how easy they think they can sell/trade the vehicle if you decide not to take it.

Some situations they would be glad to have a customer name to add to an order. Other times they might not want to use the order allocation unless they are sure it's a 'sold' order.

Got it.

So me wanting a regular cab truck vs. crew or ext. cab might require some money down since they are not as popular? Or would you decline any sort of deposit, regardless?

I have been talking with Kerry from Laura's GMC for a couple days via email now and they were extremely quick getting me a price based on my build sheet I sent over. Almost 12% off MSRP which I felt was pretty good since I am looking at an unpopular model.

Conversely, I have sent the same build sheet to two local dealers who have not even returned my call or emails yet.
