First oil change help

Hey guys. I’m new to all this forum stuff but I’ve found useful info here before. I just bought a 2017 3500HD 6.6 L5p duramax and I’m comin up on the first oil change since the dealer. I was wondering that kind of oil and oil filter to use on it. I have rotella in it now and I’m gettin a typewriter tick from it. Y’all hav any suggestions?? Thanks

Run whatever 15/40 that you want, I personally run Chevron Delo 400 in the summer and switch to 5/40 synthetic in the winter. Make sure the oil is CK4 rated. Oil filters are the same as prior duramax engines. I stay away from Fram.

Typewriter tick is one of the things that gives a dmax 'character'.

Often is worse right after an oil change. Often either goes away, or becomes ignored before the next oil change.
Many have claimed that with brand xyz oil that theirs didn't/doesn't tick -- but someone else uses the same oil and does get the tick.

Use whatever oil you like (that meets the ratings/spec) and don't worry about the tick.

Many many many threads and posts about this over the years.

Schaeffers is a good oil used by many fleets. Some mechanics are starting to question if its really any better/superior or not, but it will be fine, just expensive.

Also maybe kind of a off topic question but how often should I service my transmission and what all should I do to service it. I’ve heard people say don’t ever touch it and I’ve heard other say that’s a stupid idea lol.
