Oil life monitor

My truck only has about 1700 mi. and I noticed today that the oil life is showing 52%, is that normal? My last truck a Ram, would go 13-15,000 mi. between changes, when not towing. Is this something that I should take to my dealer?

How may hours?

Much idling?

I'd agree with jmrkav - that it seems low.

I normally get around 7-8k between changes so yes that seems strange unless your idling a lot.

Have you checked it before?

I'd reset it and keep track of what it's doing. Maybe it wasn't properly set to zero when it was new.

My truck just rolled over 1600 miles and the oil life was reading 70- something % last time I checked. I also considered that a bit low. redwngr maybe has it right. It wasn't properly set to begin with. Anyway, I won't worry about until after the first oil change, if it does it again. In the past, I've always changed my oil early on the first change anyway.

Yeah, Heron that’s not a bad idea, I’ve got free oil changes until 75,000 mi. anyway so I might just wait and see how things work out. Thanks to all.

In addition to miles, elapsed time as well as the type of driving you are doing will also impact the oil life reading. How many months since your vehicle build date?
