I just bought a 2001 duramax with 1.5 million kms on the body and drive train. The engine has been replace and now has 200,000km on it, had 1.3 million kms on the first engine!! The problem is that the oil pressure gauge stays maxed out. I was told it was the gauge cluster, so i replaced it and it is still the same.( had to replace any ways odometer read 999,999kms) So i went to napa and bought a sending unit, but it is not the same as the one on my truck. The one i bought has 1 wire and the one on the truck has 3 wire. So im wondering is the engine in my truck newer?? If so how do i get the oil pressure gauge to work??

Ya 1.5 million kms, was used to haul trailers down south. 9000kms a week, 250,000 a year had a oil change once a week. Original trany never been touched and still works great!
I went back to Napa and they said it was the right one, but the 03 and newer ones are 3 wire, and twice the money.. Think the sender is fine just wont work with my cluster because it was a 1 wire unit??

LB7 2001-2002 differed electrically from LB7 2003-2004. There was a mid season change over in the GMT-800 platform then. But no idea on the differences on the oil sending unit.

My engine is out of a early model 2003, and the truck is a 2001. So must of changed the oil pressure unit, what would be the difference between the 1 wire and 3 wire sender? Might just have to run a manual gauge.
The electrically from 2001 to the 2003 is alot different. So im going to have to run a aftermarket gauge nor tar apart my wiring harness.. Think i will go with the aftermarket gauge.
If the only difference is 3 wires instead of 1, why not buy the older style sending unit with 1 wire?
on the early 2001 2002 it was one wire i belive napa sold you the one wire sensor which is the right one you can leave the other sensor in its place and find a way to put the other sensor closer to the front of the engine there are ports on the exterior of the block that lead all the way to the front of the engine all you have to do is take the plug out go to a hydrauilc supply place and have them sell you an adapter so you can install the guage to the block or buy it from the dealer.
