Democrats: abolish ICE... free health care for illegals... make it easy for illegals who cross to stay... give illegals the right to vote... adamantly oppose building a secure border... create "sanctuary cities"... grant illegals in the country amnesty... welfare for illegals... tip off illegals about ICE raids.
And we're supposed to believe that Democrats aren't for open borders simply because they say so?

What a pain. 8am till 12:30am today (Saturday). Yesterday 5pm to 2 am. Little bro painted the leaves thought which helped.

Por15 needs 2 coats about 45min to 2 hours apart then a spray paint top coat. I have a little bit left for the back of the bumper and the bumper brackets

The fuel tank x member goes BANG when you take it out, and therefore doesn't go in without a fight. Will have to clamp crossways but the paint was wet yet.

WaterWeld on the tank.

I see your leaf spring perch clamps, and reminds me of my 83 C-30 dually. Lost my rear brakes once, and crawled under to see the U-bolt had snapped, and took out the RHS rear brake line, at the wheel cylinder/backing plate. GM didn't have a "better idea" when they came up with this design. It's just begging for failure, with that up-side down clamp as a catch-all for road debris. Anyone with one of these old trucks, should do what the OP is doing here, and clean them out, and coat them with a rust preventative.

With the stress cracks around that baffle spot weld I'm thinking you just bought a little time but the movement when that flexes will make it start leaking again soon.

IF it was just a hole the jb weld would probably hold longer - I used some on a fuel line rub thru on my MF35 tractor and its held for 2 years.

Rambo's Ride, A guy I work with, his family owns an implement dealership. He claims that waterweld works the best. And I can give him grief in person if it doesn't. I don't think there is any good solution besides another tank without tearing out the FSU to get out the rest of the fuel, which is covered in toilet bowl wax as you know.

The $10 was worth the deferment of guilt to me.

Joeq, yes it is a crummy design I guess. There were a couple years left in mine and several of the things Im fixing. If I had waited till then this truck could be driven straight to the junkyard. I'm doing most of this myself, dad did weld, little brother did leaf springs and Jim's wife made me chocolate zucchini bread that's been my main source of food for the last few days. It's only buying time, maybe 4-5 years before the body is totally fuxored.

Migraine this morning.

First thing, the breather hose wouldn't stay on the rusted fitting, total trash. I decided to replace the fitting. I fought the press in axle breather fitting out for two hours with a hammer and chisel finally I ran a wood screw into in and spun it with an impact back and forth for 5 minutes and yanked out with a claw hammer

After about puking three times during that idecided to lay down. Pic won't upload. What a nugget of poo. The fitting, the uploader and my brain. Days about shot.

Fixed by cutting the tip off a gear oil cap and threading it in. I couldn't pull it out with pliers, so.

A little ratchet, so I can get my bolts jammed in the holes.

Leaves and tank are in.

Working on straightening up the bumper from the 2500. Once that the bumper brackets are painted I just have the bed left to mess with. Quite a list to do yet.

Painted underside of the bed to buy time. Some damage and rust through from but not ko'd like the 2500 bed. There was absolutely nothing left structural of the rails on that. Crumble like stale gingerbread.

Ball peened the crap out of it, wire brush, air compressor and drug a grill brush through the rails a couple times. Wiped everything down with mineral spirits and then a special etching paint prep stuff which I also used on the frame. Drug a sponge through the rails with the pull push method and got a respectable coat of paint in there. Just used a whole old can of XO Rust on this. HATE how it goes on compared to POR15, but it does clean up with mineral spirits which is nice. Don't have to look like tiger arms at work for 5 days.

Lil bro prepd the hitch and bumper and the brackets got 1 coat of POR15 and a liberal topcoat of rattle bomb. Didn't get a finished shot of taking the dents out next post...

Yesterday started out with putting on the U-bolts and carriers.

Then on to the drum brakes...

I had painted the wheel cylinders and the ebrake strut arms, but missed the ebrake actuator arms as I figured they'd be included with the kits I got. They weren't, but oh well.

Took a long, long time to work thought the issues but got all the guts of the drum brakes all put in and adjusted up. Now I have to figure out how to get a brake line to the cylinder without getting a ton of brake fluid everywhere on the new paint. I think I'll pinch off the hose (which I just replaced), buy a new length of brake line (so all the axle ones are new, then) hook it up with the bleeders open and hose and let it gravity bleed.

What's left:
Brake lines to cylinders and bled.
Ebrake cables hung, hooked up to front cable, and adjusted.
Shocks installed.
Exhaust installed. I got absolutely ****ed by Mineke for 36" of pipe and a band clamp that should fix my issues with the Diamond eye, but its possible the bad bend will still make it a heap of crap..
Hitch installed, maybe. Might have to do that last. I forgot that I couldn't get to the last bed bolt with the hitch in the way. Could have used the whimpier hitch that came off the 2500 that probably would have avoided that issue.
Install the 7 way plug in the bumper.
Rear bumper dressed with plastics from the old K1500 bumper.
Install the bumper.
Wire the 7 way plug. Have to hook up wires under the hood, splice into existing wires and a bunch of other mayhem.
Torque down the cab mounts. Supposedly the kit I bought included the front rad support mounts for the truck, and I put them both somewhere under the truck and set the cab down on them. So I'll have to get them out of there. I also bought cab mount bolts that were too long (based on a how online...) Might grab the correct length form McMaster.
Install the bed, hook up the lights.
Rotate the tires.
Hook up batteries.
Install fuel and bleed fuel system.
Pray.

Storm blew up night before and tossed the bed several feet (it was still standing up) and bent the holy crap out of the bedsides and support arms and partially ripped off the mud flaps. Nice start to the evening. Will probably take a couple hours to try to straighten out, and it will defintely look like a crumpled piece of **** now!

HOW REFRESHING.

Brake lines in and brakes bled. Girlfriend put her only 15 minutes of help in. Does not make up for all her whining though, before and after.

Shocks in. Monroe Gas Sadnums for the lose.

Cab mount bolts in and German torqued for now.
Note: Cap screws for cab that worked are 10.9 grade M12 x 1.75 x 100mm for the middle 4. The rear mounts used an M12 x 1.75 x 120mm. I waited 3 weeks for flanged 120s. The hardware store had both the 100's and 120's in non-flanged also in 10.9 grade. The head on the non-flanged ones was 19mm which actually will stand up to corrosion for later removal MUCH better than the flanged style. Stock is like 15mm and the ones I had to wait for were 16. So the hardware store bolts with a washer would have been WAY better choices for later removal (if ever).

The ebrake cables seemed to go in nicely, but they are somewhere around 8" too short for absolutely no reason. I even ordered off of the JD6 heavy duty braking system code and they were still wrong, and measured my old ones to confirm the lengths before ordering. The easiest thing to do would be to put a 8" patch cable in there, but. Wat. the. fack. One of the boxes had greasy paw prints all over it which is probably my problem, a returned item.

REALLY wishing I had just converted to discs at this point. This drum brake stuff is pure bull****.

Whats left:

Ebrake cables hooked up to front cable, and adjusted. Attempt 2.
Exhaust install.
Hitch install.
Install the 7 way plug in the bumper.
Rear bumper dressed with plastics from the old K1500 bumper.
Install the bumper.
Wire the 7 way plug.
Install the bed, hook up the lights.
Rotate the tires.
Hook up batteries.
Install fuel and bleed fuel system.
Set this piece of garbage on fire and bury it in the field.
