Duramax runs but loud

Hey so i just finished up a head gasket job on my lly duramax and after all the t where crossed i primed it and started. The moment it started after a couple vollys of cranking it over it was loud i mean extreamly loud and spunded like the valve chatter times 20. I didnt let oil pressure get up as i just did the oil and **** b4 start up but im thinking that cannot be the reason they are dry heads i know but i also read that if the timing and valves where off it wouldn't run at all.? Any advice

Did you get the heads milled? If so, how much did they take off? Grade of original gaskets vs new gaskets? Missing any sockets?
