26078664 Steering Gear

My 2004.5 LLY has a 26078664 Delphi steering gear box. The seal kits listed at most auto stores do not fit. The Teflon rings are too small in diameter with some other problems. The 26078664 gear was used on a 2004 3/4 ton Chevy Express 6.0L. That will point you to a Powercraft 8776 or equivalent kit that will work. I hope this saves someone research time.

26078664 is the housing number gear cast that is from our Saginaw Gray Iron foundry. Its not the Gear number. All the housings cast we get from the foundry have a part number for identity. I retired at 49 with over 30 years at SSG. Now Nexter.

In this thread you can see the housing number cast.

If the Rock Auto Edelmann 8774 kit does not fit due to the rings being too small for the piston then try the 8776 kit. It worked for me.
