Bad Turbo?

When towing my trailer on the freeway at roughly 60 mph, my turbo boost gauge will go up to about 14k psi and then cut out/drop to about 8k psi. It keeps doing this (up/down/up/down) all the way down the road and more so when I go up any incline. I can hear the turbo whine go away so I know it is not just a bad gauge. Also, I threw a p045 recently at the end of a long towing trip. Is my turbo on its last leg or something else. Thanks.

it appears you have a missing number in the DTC code, running a search as is, gets some results to check

could be one of the following, do the free one first

1. you could be getting a leak. check all the rubber boot connections, make sure they bands are still tight and there are no little pinhole leaks

2. vane position sensor could be going, if it goes/is failing,it can cause the situation of the turbo spinning up, losing boost, etc

3. there could be a leak in one of the other components, but most likely not and most likely not a failing turbo (not saying it isn't just most likely not)

if you do a google search using

gm duramax p045

as the search term, you will get a bunch of hits and some reading to do,

here is a list of DTC codes
