I had same problem & mine the suction line imploded so it started this way & finally would shut down, so replace those fuel lines, it's cheap insurance.

Also it would pull down the prime pump button, so it's another clue to the puzzle.

My filter head had to be rebuilt, and all my fuel lines turned into Swiss cheese... leaking everywhere. Replaced 'em all and now it's good as new again. Unfortunately, not cheap.
