1981 Capice Classic Diesel Production Numbers

Hello All,

So I was thinking the other day and does anyone have any production numbers for a 1981 Caprice Classic that is diesel. Out of all the Caprice made that year, how many of them were diesel? This is appreciated because when I take my car to some shows people have been asking that question and I really don't know the answer to the question.

A bonus would be how many diesels were put in the 1981 Caprice Classic Landau Coupe, being that is what I have and is the rarest of the caprice model lineup. I like how the corvette people have all the production numbers for all the options, but I do realize that the caprice doesn't have that following.

Thanks to all that can help

Only production numbers I can find are for Cadillac. You would assume that Olds sold a similar number to Cadillac and then at the peak years the other makes maybe did as much as Cad or Olds. So the ? is just a guess on my part based on what I remember seeing on the roads and for sale back in the day and what I still see around and for sale today. Let me know if you have seen other numbers or have other thoughts.

85 1,088 Olds 1,000? Other 1,000? So only 3,000 total?

84 2,465 Olds 2,500? Other 2,500? So 7,500 total?

83 5,223 Olds 5,000? Other 5,000? So 15,000 total?

82 19,912 Olds 20,000? Other 20,000? So 60,000 total? Seems to be the year when you started to see a lot more Chevs, Pontiac, and Buicks.

81 42,200 Olds 45,000? Other 30,000? So 120,000 total?

80 my guess 25,000? Olds 25,000 Other 15,000? So 65,000 total?

79 my guess 10,000? Olds 10,000 Other 5,000? So 25,000 total?

78 2,800 Only offered in the Seville. So figure maybe 3,000 oldsmobiles and another 1,500 from the rest of GM? So around 7,500 total? Other than pickups you didn't see much not cad or olds.

98 Burb K25 4.10's 250K miles, new to me, pretty clean and stock.
95 Burb K25 3.73's CRASHED 250K miles, looks to have been rebuilt at least once, stock, bad rust, DE exhaust w/walker muffler, 8' western plow.
81 Buick Riviera GAVE AWAY with the infamous Olds 5.7 diesel possibly still going strong.
15 VW Golf wagon, TDI. Did the buyback on my 13 Jetta TDI wagon so it was basically a trade up.
96 Burb K25 3.42's SOLD at 340K miles, told it was all original, close race between engine wearing out or body completely rust out.
