Duramax van engine vs truck engine for conversion?

Hi,

I noticed that the 2006 van engine version of the Duramax is listed at 250hp and 460 ft/lbs.

This could make it a better candidate for a possible conversion in a Land Rover Defender than the full powered version from a truck.

Are there any external differences with the van engine? I'm wondering if it might also be smaller in some way that would help with a tight fit.

Failing any external differences is it just a matter of programming?
Could an LBZ be de-tuned to the van spec?

Thanks.

Same engines, different tuning. There are also some external parts differences, as the van upper hose comes out the front instead of the side for example, but dimensionally they are the same.
Yes, a truck LBZ could be detuned.
