They have done more of CP3s, although those are older trucks and lots of other things play into that.

I’ve been a member of the boards a long time and don’t post a lot, but since my local experience doesn’t line up with much of what is bantered about I feel obligated to just point out some other possibilities. What’s happening around me is not necessarily the rule nationwide. But the same goes for the other side of the coin.

LML owners might need to replace their pumps at about 125,000 miles, LB7 orders need to replace her injectors about the same. L5P owners now have two fuel pumps to worry about as the truck cannot run without both of them. We will see how this all plays out
I agree with you for the most part. But remember most dealerships dont get to perform most CP4 failures because of their outrageous labor rates. More diesel shops see these repairs first hand. Plus, this is the internet, we probably make up less than 5% of LML owners and less than 2% of CP4 failures as well.

I dont think the mileage really matters. The CP4 make up their own mind when they want to call craps. I've seen some last 20k miles and the one gentleman that has 1.2 million miles on his deleted, stock injector, stock pump LML.

The L5P seems to not have many issues so far. Which at about this time when the LML platform was introduced, they had more failures than the L5P's. This is also probably due to the amount of time it took for the L5P computer to be cracked for tuning....

Your points seem valid, but like I said before we are just guessing. Who does the most pump replacements? Around here not many diesel shops to speak of. Only GM knows for sure. And while we might make up 5% of Duramax owners, what percentage of tuning, tinkering, and modifying Duramax owners are we?

And as far as the L5P I have two friends with injector issues so as far as I can tell they are at 66% failure rate in my world But you are absolutely right the lack of tuning is likely helping the L5P- which goes back to my earlier comment about us being a bunch of meddlers that like to push our trucks waaay past what the designers had intended.

I just wanted to point out to some of those biting their nails worried about a CP4 imminent failure, that dumping a ton of money into a CP3 conversion is no garrantee. And yes, even CP3 pumps can catastrophically fail as mine did, and others as the GM rep told me. Your totally correct, no mileage is for sure but if mine makes it to 125k I will replace it with another CP4.

Just an FYI, I sold my ‘11 with over 600k on it, with the original cp4. Doesn’t matter if your cp4 has 125k or 5k, bad fuel, dirt, or water will do the same thing to either one.

Yep!

I think lack of using additives along with years of getting x amount of water/dirt in the system helps speed up the death process

Was your "11 bone stock or did you have a Fass lift pump, or use fuel additives?

That's great to hear 600,000 miles bone stock. With my Fass Lift pump and using opti- lube at least now I have some peace of mind
