Related Turbo Whining and Brake Whining with Pulsation

I jumped in my 2012 LML and discovered that when I pushed the brakes it sounded like the ABS was engaging with a pulsating and whining sound. When I drove home I quickly started getting a whining sound from what seemed like the turbo. The whining noise would go up and down with the engine rpms. It got even worse quickly as I would push the brakes. Now just at idle the truck will whine and pushing the brakes it will whine even worse. Its like the turbo noise and braking noise and pulsation is tied together somehow.

It threw a P2BAD code and a P20EE code also.

Any ideas what it could be?

Sounds as if one of the vanes in the power steering (and hydroboost) pump is stuck. The pump is, most likely, beyond its service life. You could always run the engine with the fan belt removed to verify.
Your trouble codes are unrelated to the whining. Both codes point to a defective NoX sensor in the exhaust system. I believe that 2012 trucks have an 8/80 emissions warranty, but, consult with your diesel supplement manual in your glove box to be certin.

First check the level of fluid in your Power Steering Pump. That pump not only provides your power steering but operates your Hydro Boost for your brakes.

When it gets low it makes noise and lets you know quickly.

With a 2012 truck if you have not flushed your PS/HB fluid you should do so rather quickly. This will improve not only your PS but your braking will get more effective as well.

You should also flush your brake fluid.

Both are easy, not expensive and should be flushed every 1-2 years as a best practice, although most don't ever do them until a problem arises.
