DEF consumption

My 2015.5 Denali just turned 37,000 miles. Been keeping track of fuel and DEF useage. So far I've averaged 1 gallon of DEF for each 75 gallons of fuel. Or 1.25 gallons of DEF per 100 gallons of fuel.

Within the window of expected consumption of between 1 and 1.25 gallons of DEF per 100 gallons of fuel.

32 gallons of DEF, 2411 gallons of fuel

I think that should be 100/75 = 1.33 gal of Def per 100 gal of diesel (I'm smart, I swear!) haha but yes, I get about the exact same as you.

32 / 2411 x 100% = 1.327%

Definitely fits the usual range.

IIRC, published was "about 1 to 1.25%"

I am "old new" - was in this forum when I bought my 2005 3500 Duramax Dulie (crew cab-long bed) then, over the years, lost track. Just bought a 2013. (as much as I loved what the 2005 can do, have to admit the 2013 is light-years improvement, in power, in quiet comfort, etc. Well....here's my question - about this DEF deal. I put two gallons in the tank - which I presume is around 5 gallons.

What can I expect to happen when it gets lo - I read somewhere the thing will go into "limp" mode - is there any warning ? And if so, how many miles warning should I expect from the dash ?

2013 Chev. 3500 Duramax/Allison crew cab pick up 80K miles at purchase. ( June 2018 ) White in color. Bone-stock except for air shocks in rear (to compensate for removing one rear spring from the spring-pack to give a decent ride on those occasions when not towing heavy loads ! ). Added small winch in pick-up bed to help load our jet ski up its ramp. Normal use is towing approx. 11,000 lb. trailers ( our Bayliner on its 3 axle, or my '38 Packard V-12 in its "box" trailer. Air box modified to accept a cabin air filter the system was obviously originally designed for!

I think it just tells you itís low and to add fluid, if you ignore it long enough it will limp out.
My 16 has 11k miles on it, I got it with 6 on it and assume the def was full when I left the dealer, at 7k I added 2.5 gallons as I was going on a road trip, 3200 miles. No light yet and unless Iím going somewhere far Iím going to wait until it says add to see actual usage.

http://www.gm.ca/media/owners/manual...esel_en_CA.pdf

Not 2013, but '13 it will be the same or similar.

First (one time) warning at about 1000 miles. From about 300 miles, warning every time it is started.
Escalating from there.

Lots of warnings.
And yes, eventually it will 'speed limit'.

I was scrolling the display on my 16 van and it now shows def at 24%, no warning to fill by and miles or anything else. Iím going to wait to see what it does.
