2016 fuel filter replacement

trucks a '16 with 7500 on it. never changed fuel filter and still reads 85%. this something that should be changed considering it's age or are these good till the percentage starts getting low? just something I was thinking about.

also, time come to change it; I've heard it's easier to take the fender well out completely with those plastic clips and do it through the wheel well. any how-to's or a write up on this?

I’m really surprised that being on here for some time that you never heard of Fuel access door.
Since 2001 Some people make there own but there really inexpensive.
LML FUEL FILTER ACCESS PANEL DOOR $25 can be had anywhere.

Your fuel filter life % is no longer a 15,000 mileage counter.
Starting in 2011 you now have a Fuel Vacuum Sensor that measures restriction. So your DIC is doing just what it should.

Starting in 2011 this was added.
GM Part :12641590, SWITCH, Computer Control Sensors, SWITCH,ENGINE FUEL VACUUM(INCLUDES 40)(INCLUDES SEAL)(FILTER MINDER) it’s on your low pressure side by your fuel filter if you haven’t looked at your engine yet.

Search or Google your question.

3 possible triggers to change fuel filter:

Replace the fuel filter when the CHANGE FUEL FILTER message in the Driver Information Center (DIC) comes on.
See Fuel System Messages on page 5-13.

If the fuel filter has not been replaced, or if the vehicle has been driven 36 000 km/ 22,500 mi or more since the fuel filter was last replaced, replace the filter and reset the message.
The diesel fuel filter may need to be replaced more frequently, based on biodiesel usage, driving in severe dust climate or off-road driving or towing a trailer for extended
periods.

The fuel filter should be replaced at least every 2 years.

madjack diesel filter access door mod. put one on the first time you do a filter change. Did that on my 04.5 and on my 15.5. worth the few bucks. makes accesing the filter much easier.

At 29500 miles mine still was at 35%. I changed it and cut it open to see what it looked like. It would have gone more miles without any problem. On my 2003 I would change filters at 15000 intervals so going twice that seemed risky.

The inner fender liner comes off easy as it uses torx screws rather than those horrible plastic clips. They come out fast with a drill and torx bit. The mods to add an access door use the plastic clips. Each to their own, I prefer taking the screws out.

I don't think he needs any more help for he hasn't been back since starting this thread.
This happens so many times on here. I wonder how they function in life when they get lost so easy.

What's up with that? He posts a question at 5 in the morning and never comes back to see if anyone responded. Maybe he sold the truck that morning??

Good point. Along with the the other thousands that start a thread and never are seen again. There must be a lot of sold trucks.
