CEL and emmissions light

This morning I jumped in the truck (it had sat for 6 days), remembered I left my glasses in the house. Left it idle for ~1 minute, got back in and the CEL and the emmissions light (the dumb looking light that looks like someone blowing) were on and it said 99 miles until speed reduced to 65mph.

I haven't pulled codes (I'm at work). I also had the 278 mile warning on the DEF.

I have 65k miles. Any ideas?

Trent

Get it into the dealer for diagnostics, but it sounds like maybe a NOX sensor may have went bad. Lots of posts in this forum with similar issues. Looks like you have warranty still, so hopefully its an easy and free fix.

A year ago I had this situation and the dealer cleared it by replacing both NOX sensors and updating the computer program. After fussing around with it too long, they contacted a GM field representative for direction and authorization. A month ago, the light and codes came in for DEF again, and the dealer replaced a bad DEF heater in the tank by replacing the whole tank assembly. Both times it happened as I was leaving the next day on a trailering trip and had to wait until the dealer got me on the road again. They did a great job this time and GM picked up the cost both times. I hope they get something better for emissions than DEF by the time this truck goes off extended warranty and I buy another truck. The Feds program restrictions are like impending doom when on a long trip.

The 'someone blowing' light is specific to def issues.

The obvious question is how much is in it, since it's also giving distance warning messages.

If you've added at least a couple gallons after getting the level warning and it's had a couple of cycles to recognize the addition then it's likely going to take a dealer service visit.

The sitting for a few days, and idling for a few minutes, will not have anything to do with it.

Got a call from the Dealer, the heater in the DEF tank died. $850. Are you $h!7ing me, its the middle of summer and I need a heater for $850. I'll bet my extended warrenty doesn't cover it.

Sucks, gonna start looking for a DEF Delete.
