How Do You Read Your EGT'S

You can get one of the readers that connects to the OBD port and read the stock temp probes, or buy an add-on egt gauge and probe (typically the probe would be installed in the exhaust manifold )

If the truck remains stock there really is no need to add one as it will not hurt itself.

I have an Edge Insight and the Edge Pyrometer add on for my stock LML. I agree that a stock truck is tuned from the factory to not hurt itself but I still wanted to keep an eye on the temps. The pyro is installed in the passenger side exhaust manifold because of its easy access once the fender liner is taken out.

Cruising between 65-70 on flat terrain the EGT's hover in the 6-700 range. It isn't that uncommon for me to see over 1k while accelerating from a stop without much boost. Once you add a few PSI and get some more air into the engine everything cools down rather quickly. I haven't towed or hauled anything significant since the EGT sensor install so I don't know what the temps are when loaded down.

Thank you man. That's really helpful. About how much did u spend on the sensor if u don't mind me asking ? And what about install pretty easy ?

I'll PM you what I paid and where I purchased it, as for the install it was simple. It took longer to figure out how to get the cable into the cab then drilling and tapping the manifold. There is a sticky in the DIY section that very clearly shows and explains the installation.

To add to the EGT temp question, towing 10,000 i see 1350 F max pulling 8%. Without tuning it won't get too hot.

It's not too hard to get up around 1500 towing. Down the highway non towing 600 to 800 but add some wind load and you'll be in the 1000 range. These temps with a manifold sensor location.

I am on a trip right now. Last week pulling CA58 thru the Tehacipies between Bakersfield and Barstow I saw about 1375* and about 29#'s of boost at 58 mph pulling our trailer.
