CarCode or other scantool for 96+

Ladies and gents.

Way back when with the dinosaurs and windows xp, there was an old OBD2 app built by obd-2.com named CarCode. (old info located @ OBD-2.com/old.html)

I used it years ago on my 96+ trucks to set TDCO. Always worked fine, the process was a bit mediocre, but it worked, and it was a much cheaper alternative than buying an expensive scan tool.

So with the purchase of my new to me '96 6.5TD, i grabbed my old dell lattitude, installed a fresh copy of winxp x32, bought a new 'ELM327' rs232 serial/usb OBD2 cable and got all the drivers rolling and functional. I can read any vehicle with my setup using other scan tools, however, CarCode seems to stick at an 'initializing' screen after it determines my rs232 adapter is on COM1. Ive tried other COMs, baud rates etc. According to instruction, preference is COM1-4, 38400, 8x1..which is all set- and works fine in other apps.

I dont expect direct support on this, just curious if anyone still uses it, or if all else fails, if anyone has any other freeware recommendation to set TDCO on a OBD2 truck.

Any help is appreciated!

May be Carcode does not use ELM protocol/standard (or whatever you call it)?

As for other tools, check with Quadstar, his company is called QuadstarTuning.
He is probably the only one who has experiment in this field.
