Connectors or components missing????

I purchased a 1997 Chevrolet K 3500. It had no engine and the transmission was sitting in the back no transfer case. This was a 6.5 turbo diesel truck. Knowing nothing about diesels I installed a 5.3 LS engine a 4 L 80 e transmission and the transfer case got it running everything wored beautifully.

A friend found a 6.5 turbo diesel really cheap so I thought I'd like this to be a diesel again.

When I put the 5.3 LS engine in it I did not disturb in any way the wiring harness from the 6.5 turbo diesel I use the LS engine harness and I just married the wiring to the gauges as necessary. When I remove the 5.3 LS engine I removed all of the marrying, I do this with those 3M connectors so they're very easy to see and very hard to miss.

I have installed the 6.5 turbo diesel I have connected all the connectors that need to be connected or that I can tell I mean this is purely Common Sense connecting if the connectors connect then they are connected I have only two connectors that I have no idea where they go because I cannot find a mate.

I will attach the pictures.

I have tinkered with cars my entire life which is about 50 years and there's not a whole lot that I can't do so I'm pretty fluent with mechanics but I have very little knowledge regarding diesel engines.

Any help is appreciated.

This will help you figure out what they are for sure.

Left is PMD and right is glow plug relay I think but check wire color and connector endview to be certian.

Welcome to DP!

Just an FYI, I think what we are looking at is a PMD extension cable for a stanadyne Gray PMD, you may investigate getting a new extension cable due to the corrosion on the pins and move to a black PMD/extension cable and move it out from under the hood with its own heat sink. the actual connector is down by the injection pump and is difficult to reach. the black PMD's are much easier to find, cheaper, and usually come with a lifetime warranty.
You can use the gray pmd connector by cuting the alignment tangs off of the side of the connector, but it won't fit very well and a new cable is just good maintenance practice as it is a critical component that causes lots of problems if messed up.

Okay... what exactly is a PMD ?? I tried to search that PDF for PMD and nothing turns up.

I found the other cable remains of the glow plug relay... luckily they have it at Advanced auto parts ... it's a discontinued part from GM... only parts stores that list it are Advanced and AutoZone, the others do not list it anymore at all.

Much appreciated.

Oh! and yes you are correct that is an extension cable. But I still haven't found where to plug it into.

Its essentially a transistorized amplifier that runs the electronic injection pump. They notoriously burn out and cause lots of run issues. They fail due to heat soak and need to be kept cool. The extension comes off of the nose of the injection pump harness. If the extension is corroded or damaged its very risky to reuse it.

https://quadstartuning.com/collectio...s4-pmd-harness

And a long extension cable is typically used to get the PMD outside of the engine bay on a cooler like this:

Check out vendors like:

Leroy Diesel. Kennedy Diesel, Quadstar Tuning, Rock Auto (which is a site sponsor)

I'd try to find an AC Delco brand Relay https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...40816&jsn=1139

Also replace this: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...40816&jsn=1227 or have one spare, if it fails, your trucks lift pump will stop as a failsafe. I have a BWD one its garbage. The ground for the lift pump is also very problematic, black wire coming from the fuel pump. I cut the wire and grounded it closer to the pump where I can clean it periodically.

Some people run the signal from this sensor to a relay to take the electrical load off of the ops, which helps them last longer. It directly powers the lift pump with an internal switch.

Yes, that is it... and just above in the picture looks like an extension harness. follow it and you should find the other PMD relocated on a heatsink
