N/A 6.5 GEP questions??? Turbo it???

It's been quite some time since I've been on here guys. I've been searching the forum with no real answers to my questions.

I'll get right to it...

I'm picking up a N/A 6.5 GEP take-out this Friday. It's a 506 block with a Julian date of 12 15 N. So from my research it's a 2006 GEP block.

My plan is to bolt on a custom center-mount turbo (HX-40WII) set-up and run it with moderate boost. I've heard the pre-cups could be an issue, but I have no clue what pre-cups this specific motor has until I get my hands on it.

Also, the piston squirters...is it safe to say that this being a 2006 GEP that it will have the squirters even though it's N/A?

I'm building this for Daily use and I'm hoping with it being a GEP block I can run a little bit more boost than usual without any big problems.

Thanks for any help and info!

-Tom

I would highly recommend you inspect or replace the bearings, and at that time you would know if it has the squirters. And it may or may not have diamond or T precups, diamonds are preferred but T's would be fine, anything else would be too small..

The center mount setup requires extensive cutting to the firewall to fit. The members Jim and Jeff "Turbonator" did it and posted many pictures. I tried finding the thread for around 1/2 hour and couldn't find it, but their threads offer excellent information and entertainment on the 6.2/6.5 platform.

Being a 506 even though it’s a N/A engine id be willing to bet it has the oil squirter orifices.

All 506 were 4 bolt main. They had the smaller outer 10mm bolts in later years of production but the early 506 blocks had 12mm bolts all throughout the main cap area.

Thanks for the replies guys. I just got home with it!

It’s 100% for sure a GEP 506 from 2006. It has the Navistar diamond in the valley with 506 dots as well.

I need help with how to go about this. How far to tear it down? Oil pan, valve covers, water pump and intake manifold will be coming off at a minimum. Should I pull the heads or leave them be?

I’ll post pics tomorrow.

Just wondering.....Why do you want to go with a center mount turbo? Your side mount manifold can be drilled to fit center mount heads. Its a lot easier, and costs a bunch less, to drill the bolt holes. Than the work you will go thru fitting a center mount turbo in a GMT400 truck.

I second tommy.

The center mount intake also has a lower cfm rating over the f vin intake, or I'd be all over the center mount intakes.

The big thing is the center mount heads are 60degrees and the f/s vin are 90 degrees....
