Turbo rebuild or not.

Good afternoon fellow Dieselers.
I have a 1994 Chevy K2500 Suburban with the 6.5 turbo, still have the original turbo on it. The turbo has been leaking oil for sometime now, it has over 300,000 miles on it. The question I have is should I rebuild the turbo and if so where do I get the rebuild kit for it. What is the model number of the turbo?

Thanks for any help.
Richard

You can rebuild the Turbo.
IIRC, you should have the GM-4 on your engine.

You can find rebuild kits using online sources like eBay, Amazon, etc. Just research before you buy..
or you can purchase a rebuilt turbo from Kennedy Diesel, Rock Auto, etc..

Probably leaking from the oil drain like 99% of all the other GM-x series turboes.

If the shaft play is still within spec + - 1-0.5mm side to side it's fine, but since the turbo has a lifespan of 200-275k you should check every oil change for turbo play.

The CDR looks like a can of tuna located above the right side valve cover. It acts like a PVC valve and vents the crankcase. If not working pressure builds up and forces oil out the seals and drain hoses.
