Any way to tell if it is blown head gasket or the Heads cracked ?

Hi Guys,

My Suburban started blowing white smoke yesterday and coolant level has dropped dramatically - just left it idling out the front and the temp shot through the roof in about 1/2 hour.

The only other symptom is that it is really hard to turn the motor over - at first i thought i had a flat battery (had not driven it for about 3 weeks) and then after jump starting it - almost like the starter motor was dying - eventually after using the key 3 or 4 times it started OK

Idle is all good - just lots of white smoke that smells sweet.

So being in Australia and hard to get parts - wondering if there is an easy way to tell without ripping it apart whether it is just a head gasket or the heads ?

Craig

Not without getting down in there and removing the heads to get a visual on what exactly occurred, it's just a guessing game..

Hopefully, you just blew a gasket and that's all.

regardless of what you think is right or wrong, it works!...esp if you need some time before you can do a "proper" tear down and repair.
