Hi all, I'm A new member to the site, with a 6.5 and start problems

I have been reading some threads and I think I'm on the rite track for some good knowledgeable tips and advice.

This is where I'm @---1995 1500 gm 6.5 td. (Canadian).
New parts related to my prob. -both fuel pumps ,fuel p/u ,vac pump , turbo actuator.
hard cold start dew to air I think?????? it's not that it's cold but seems to be time since last run , 8-10 hr. when I try to start glow cycles normally turn to start and it fire up rite away then quits, try again and no fire, keep it cranking and it acts like cold start with no heat, white smoke turns to black , few smoke rings and away she goes and runs smooth rite away. when I bleed the air off the top of the fuel filter I get bubbles. I read in a thread to pressure up the fuel tank and look for leeks between the lift pump and the p/u (found no wet spots there) but I did find a 5/16 (return line?) on the HP fuel pump clamp loose and sweating a bit. (tight now) I can't tell if this is the prb. for 8-10 hrs.
do's anyone out there have any ideas of what next I could check?

Welcome to Diesel Place!

Try jumping the lift pump relay, then try to start. Here is how to jump the lift pump relay: https://www.dieselplace.com/forum/***...stalled.jpg%22.

If this works, your Oil Pressure Switch (OPS) is probably bad. Primary power to the lift pump is through the OPS. Replace OPS with AC Delco D1808A.

Also, did you replace the fuel filter and thoroughly clean the fuel filter manager bowl and final filter screen?

You replaced the Line pump and the Injection Pump??

If you replaced the Injection Pump did you set TDCO??
Timing is a very important factor when you replace the Injection pumps..

The Fuel Filter manager has some rubber lines and also has a couple of O Rings that will dry rot and allow air to enter/or leak fuel. ( Rubber fuel line doesn't have to look wet to be bad)
The drain line from the Fuel Filter manager to the T Valve located by the oil filler cap will also allow air to enter..

Also, when you replaced the fuel sender/pickup, did you install an AC Delco Diesel rated Fuel sock? The senders Do not come with the correct sock attached.

When you open the Fuel Cap do you get a Whoosh sound?

Turbo Actuator will NOT affect starting.

You have to check the electrical also. In addition to the suggestions above.

Load test the batteries one at a time?
Check all the cables and terminals and ground?
When you change the fuel pump (which I assume to be Lift Pump), did you bleed the air?

He mentions 'both' pumps and the 'hp' pump? Meaning injector pump? If so was the symptoms the same before and after the change?

if the Injector Pump (IP) is changed, was it new, used, rebuild? Where is the source?

Sounds like air in system. Best investment is a lift pump relay from KENNEDY DIESEL. Has a button on the relay so you can bleed / prime the system from under the hood .

thanks for all the advice, turns out a clamp on a small return line on the h/p pump was the culprit. I found it by pressuring up the fuel tank . I got the tip from someone in here, I'll try to find who. kudos to you my friend. Cheep fix. gotta like it.

Thanks it was BigRT with the win.. you the man

Glad you figured it out. I have learned soooo much from the guys on this site. Practically everything I needed for a complete swap from gas to diesel was from here.
