That's usually a sign that the PO has used ether to start the vehicle..

Well, I've had it for 4 years. It hasn't seen ether in that time.

You've changed plugs within those 4 years?

Yeah. Its never really been great to start in the winter, so I check and replace any questionable ones every fall. If they don't glow at the tip or there is any indication of swelling, they get swapped out. I even picked up a Webasto coolant heater to try and make it better, just need time to install the darn thing.

Being in your location, having the glow plug override mod would help and using the block heater will help those starts

Well, Sat was 40* and I needed to head up to the barn to get some stuff for my trip south. The truck started like a champ. Yes I was wondering since I hadn't plugged her in. Seems to run smoother and I now have a ton of boost. I guess sealing up those exhaust leaks made a big difference. Might have to back off the tension on the turbo modulator spring.

So my trip to Ga was excellent, until the motor started dying while driving down the road! I had suspected my PMD ext cable since the last time I had a fail to start issue, so I had ordered a new cable from Leroy diesel prior to the trip. I did have it with me, but Saturday was raining big time, and we had just packed up from camping in the rain so I didn't want to work in the rain again. I tried to make our destination(missed it by 7 miles) but the truck ultimately won. The last time the motor died, the master cyl crapped the bed too. A call to AAA got us a tow to our destination for $16. Sunday I spent swapping out the master cyl and today we drove home.

The brakes are soft so I've missed something, but now that I'm home and have access to all my tools, I will get it back to stopping good. I did learn about J8D brakes Sunday. I had no clue if my truck was equiped, but another patron asked if I had overload springs. I answered yes, he said "you have them". Seems its an HD load spring/brake package or something.

I was planning on going with the copper nickel brake lines, but someone said a stainless kit was available for $100 or so. Any opinions on this?

Oh yeah, I swapped in the new PMD ext cable Sun too, the truck never missed a beat the whole way home today.

For your location I would lean towards the stainless to help fight the corrosive salt winters

Well, the Nicopp line is 88% copper, so I see it being pretty close corrosion wise.
