CL Trans sound like a good deal?

The burb needs a rebuild or new trans and TC. Found a guy on CL with 94 4l80e, says it has 100k miles and shifted perfect. It was pulled about 4 months ago from behind a 6.5 truck. Not sure what to offer him as a lot of the trans prices are all over the place on CL & ebay. So last night I offered him $250 and he accepted. What do you guys think? If trans is in the shape he says is.this a descent deal? Thx

That is a good price if it works. I've seen many junk engines sold as "Ran Good When Pulled".
At least if you buy from a junkyard you can get a replacement if it is bad. Private party and you will have to eat the loss.
Is reverse gone out of your current trans? If not it might be worth putting one of these kits in:4L80E Master Solenoid Kit 1991 to 2003

Sounds like a deal. You have to almost judge the person on a used transmission. Is he stable and grounded or peddling some junk out of a storage locker. If your at his house and hes got his shat together then the transmission is probably working but who knows how long it will last eh. He cant tell you either. The guy I bought my 6.2 goodwrench from was a straight shooter who had a medium operation going. it was obvious he wasn't out to rip me off. Got 35,000 on that motor so far.

Cheap enough to have it completely overhauled before you install it.

This would be another use for this : https://www.dieselplace.com/forum/63-...-tool-box.html A couple drops of the fluid could give you a better idea of the condition of the trans.

For $250 its worth a shot, then you would have time to build the one you took out, as finances and time allows.

Well I am going to pick it up next SAT. He said if I.gave him the full $350 he was asking he would give me a 60 day warranty for the trans. I declined since not sure when I will get time to install it. The projects are starting to pile up! Thx again

$250, you literally stole it. Around here, used ones go for $1000 and up, rebuilt units average $3500.
