I dropped by a bone yard yesterday with a buddy who wanted new seats with inside arm rests for his 97 Savana van. His are vynil and he wants cloth.

Anyways, I see a poster advertising their other yard which has older vehicles, .....and motors and trannies for $100. So I ask, do you have any 6.5 diesels for 99-2000. He says, "I think we have a 97, it was in a fire".

I scoot over to the other yard and sure enough. A 1998 3500 which had a small fire in the engine bay only. The rad shroud was melted but the rad hoses were fine, the water pump hose was fine, etc etc. The alternator plastic was a little distorted. So I says, to this guy, "a hunderd bucks"?

He has to phone, and now the picture changes, they want $250 and I have to pull it. I say, does the turbo and starter and alternator come with it? He says, "yes", I say, "Deal". The transmission was already gone, Sh!t.

So today I pull it within 75 minutes and they lift it out with a forklift right into my truck.

The starter is label,...."Napa, New starter".
The Alternator spins freely.
The turbo is tighter than a 16 ... well you get the picture.
And the motor, looks like it has just been rebuilt with new heads.

Hahaha.

We were lookin' for options since we need an engine. The bone yard here has 2, one for $4500 and one for $3500. I'd say you got a good deal.

That bone yard isn't going to be in business long if they keep throwing away money like that!

The cheapest quote I ever found from a salvage yard was 3500.00 (US).

Good find!

How much for the air filter housing? If you are thinking about getting rid of that I would be interested.

I never scored the air filter housing, it was melted slightly.

No Chi2, it's not like that. These guys always charge an arm and a leg for anything they own. They are huge in this area of the Country.

However, when it comes to damaged goods, they want no part of it. They do not want call backs/warranty.

So when in doubt, they flog it as is.

Well, it sounds good for you, and that is good enough for me!

In Southern California, I have seen engines come from donor trucks that looked like Godzilla sat on them. Total front end damage, bent frame- major wrecks- and they would still charge the going price for the engine.

I like the way your guys do business better!

Jon
